Red September, raising awareness of blood cancers

For the second year, the national awareness campaign for blood cancers called “Red September” is being deployed in France and overseas.

The Ariège Department, owner of the two sites, was contacted by the association ” Living with NMP ” to relay this operation. Thus, during this month of September at nightfall, the Ariégeoises and Ariégeoises can observe the purple lighting on the facades of the Château de Foix and the Palais des Évêques de Saint-Lizier.

The aim is to make as many people as possible aware of these blood cancers which affect each year around 45,000 people in France, or 12% of new cases of cancer.

Leukemia, lymphoma, or even myeloma… Since 2022, the influence of Red September, through the actions of the association, has helped to raise awareness of this public health cause in order to better prevent and cure it.

70 other communities support the cause by lighting up their buildings, hospitals, monuments and institutions with the color red.

This awareness-raising operation is supported by the French Blood Establishment, the FIM (France Intergroup of Myeloproliferative Syndromes), the Association of Hematology Interns (AIH), Dis-moi Santé and the Press Club of France.
