A United States fighter jet was shot down over the Red Sea by friendly fire early Sunday morning. Both pilots ejected safely, but “initial estimates indicate that one of the crew members suffered minor injuries,” the United States Central Command said late Saturday, local time in Florida – where CENTCOM is based.
“The guided-missile cruiser USS Gettysburg (CG 64), part of the USS Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group, accidentally fired at and struck an F/A-18 flying from the USS Harry S. Truman.” said a statement released by CENTCOM.
“This incident was not the result of hostile fire and a full investigation is underway.”
