Like all other meat from dead or shot game in the park, the parts of Hubertus suitable for consumption are processed into, for example, steak and venison sausages. The alternative would be for the deer to be eaten by other animals in the park, or collected by a government agency that destroys the cadaver.
According to park director Seger van Voorst tot Voorst, it will take a while before the first pieces of the red deer are served. “A shot animal must first come to rest. That takes a few days and benefits the taste. After that, the butcher will slaughter and process the animal,” he says. Broadcasting Gelderland.
Wolf
Red deer, wild boars and mouflons are hunted in the Hoge Veluwe, because they have no natural enemies in the park and the population would otherwise become too large. Administrators shoot several dozen animals a year. All meat is processed for consumption.
