Red Dead Redemption Makes a Comeback: Tops the PS4 Download Charts

Red Dead Redemption was released more than ten years ago, but it recently received a re-release on the PS4 and Nintendo Switch platforms.

As expected, Red Dead Redemption became the best-selling game on PS4 upon release and appears to have overtaken many popular games in the past month. According to PlayStation, it was among the most downloaded PS4 games in several regions.

PlayStation Blog has announced its list of the most downloaded games for August, and the decade-old game from Rockstar Games has taken pride of place on the list in several regions.

In Europe, Red Dead Redemption ranked second in terms of downloads last month, behind only Minecraft. In the US and Canada, it dropped to third place, while Minecraft maintained its leadership in this part of the world.

It should be noted that the game was released on August 17th. This means that, compared to most of the other games on this list, it was available for less than half of August. Therefore, this result can be considered impressive.

The most downloaded games of August on PS4 in the US and Canada:

The initial announcement was poorly received. The trailer shown by Rockstar Games received a lot of backlash as fans were disappointed by the lack of meaningful updates for the game.

In the past, the publisher has argued that remasters aren’t worth the investment, but the latest release shows Take-Two is changing its approach. As such, Take-Two’s catalog of classic games could see even more ports and remasters appear.

Besides the recent re-release, Take-Two apparently has a few more plans for the IP. In an interview, Strauss Zelnick stated that Red Dead Redemption has enough appeal to last for many years, possibly hinting at a third game after GTA 6.
