From Tuesday, 200,000 Salzburg residents could test themselves per week under the supervision of the Red Cross. That is three times as many tests as could be done before. Each employee supervises five people at the same time during the “nose drill test”, explains State Rescue Commander Anton Holzer.
“The crucial point is that you no longer need medical staff for the monitored self-test, because it is all about the correct handling and execution of the smear. This smear in the front nasal area is uncomplicated and simple, ”says Holzer.
No concerns about the correctness of the self-tests
What is criticized about the “nose drill tests”, however, is that it is easier to cheat if, for example, the test stick is not inserted deep enough into the nose. Holzer replies: “What we saw in Hallein, where we did thousands of tests in this form, that the people who came to test take it very seriously and for the employees it is not a problem for several people to do this at the same time monitor.”
The digital processing has also been new since Tuesday. Instead of a printed confirmation, the result is sent directly to the smartphone.
