“Red Cross Facilities Damaged in Major Drone and Missile Attack across Ukraine”

On the night of Monday, there was a major drone and missile attack across Ukraine, where several Red Cross facilities were damaged or destroyed.

Erik Abild, regional representative for Red Cross Europe, is currently in Kyiv to follow up the humanitarian efforts in the country.

On the phone with VG on Monday evening, he tells about several attacks in the war-torn country recently.

– There was a big attack all over Ukraine on the night of Monday, including over Kyiv and Odesa. In the attack, a warehouse and a mobile hospital were hit. The entire warehouse burned down after a rocket attack, he says.

According to Abild, the warehouse was used as a warehouse for emergency aid. Reuters also describes the warehouse as a food warehouse.

– It is very dramatic. This is a serious attack on humanitarian aid. It just shows how serious the war is here in Ukraine.

On Twitter, the Ukrainian Red Cross writes that the warehouse was 1,000 square meters in size, and that it was completely damaged.

– We cannot say that, and we have not come out with that either. We are used to working in war, and we cannot avoid risks, says Abild.

Kyiv mayor Vitaly Klitschko says, according to Reuters, that Russia launched 60 Iranian-made kamikaze drones, 36 of them towards the capital, and that all were shot down. He refers to it as the biggest attack of this type, writes BBC.

In addition, the Ukrainian defense reports that 16 rockets have hit Kharkiv, Kherson, Mykolaiv and Odesa in the last 24 hours.

– People I talk to are afraid of what will happen next, and what will happen tonight, says Abild.

Last week, a railway station, a house, a hardware store and a grocery store were hit by artillery attack in southern Ukraine.

Several civilians died in the attack.

– This is the reality, people who are out shopping with shopping carts, who are killed. It’s so concrete and damn.

He says that the Red Cross takes precautions and has warning systems to prevent employees from being injured.

Local officials say three people were injured in the attack on the warehouse.
