The Salvadoran Red Cross benefited approximately 90 residents of the El Chagüite, Jucuapa, and Usulután cantons with a fumigation and abatement campaign, with the aim of eradicating the mosquito that transmits dengue.
Luis Galdámez, a technician with the Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF-Floods) project in El Salvador, said that with the support of community leaders, they can verify that there are no mosquito breeding grounds or larvae reproduction areas inside the homes to be fumigated.
“This fumigation and abatement to eradicate the vectors that transmit dengue is with the support of the Ministry of Health and the Municipal Works Department (DOM), in its auxiliary role to the public authorities in humanitarian aspects,” said Galdámez.
The DREF-Floods project is funded by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and is implemented in the departments of Ahuachapán, Sonsonate, La Paz, San Vicente, La Unión and the municipalities of Santa Ana, Chalatenango and Cuscatlán.
