Second success at home in Salzburg before the turn of the year
Salzburg, December 30, 2020 | EC Red Bull Salzburg won the home game of the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League against HC TIWAG Innsbruck “Die Haie” at the end of the year with 5: 1 and showed a very efficient exploitation of chances. After a 1-0 lead in the first section, four goals in the second section laid the foundation for success, with Rick Schofield scoring for the third time in a brace.
In the last game of the old year, the Red Bulls also had to do without convalescents Jack Skille, Dominique Heinrich, Alexander Rauchwald, Paul Huber, Aljaz Predan and Filip Varejcka as well as John Peterka (GER) and Tim Harnisch (AUT) because of the U20 World Cup in Canada get along. Julian Lutz, who only netted twice against Dornbirn two days ago, was not there either.
The Red Bulls immediately took the initiative and, with Rick Schofield, got two good shooting positions at the right post. After a few powerful minutes, the guests became more offensive and played on eye level with the Salzburgers. Salzburg goalkeeper Jean-Philippe Lamoureux and his counterpart Thomas McCollum alternately fended off good opportunities. Up to the 16th minute, Florian Baltram was right in the slot shortly after a power play and pushed the disc into the network after a rebound to lead. The Red Bulls had good chances after that, but overall the first exciting third was even in terms of chances.
In the second half, the Red Bulls literally constricted their opponents in the first few minutes, only after about five minutes did the Tyroleans free themselves from the defensive. In the 26th minute, however, Justin Schütz made use of David McIntyre’s pass with a one-timer from a tight angle to make it 2-0. Shortly afterwards, Innsbruck’s top scorer Daniel Ciampini took advantage of one of the first guest opportunities in this third and hit the Kreuzeck (28th). That brought the guests back into play, who showed a dangerous power play in the 32nd minute. But shortly afterwards Justin Schütz prevailed strongly against two defenders on the other side and Rick Schofield used his rebound for the third Salzburg Gate (34th). In the final phase, the game relocated completely in front of the Innsbruck gate. As a result, Rick Schofield made a double perfect for the third time in the season when he used Mario Huber’s back pass from the slot (38th) and Thomas Raffl hit a rebound on the right post to make it 5-1 in the same minute. Pause after 40 minutes.
In the initial phase of the final third, the Red Bulls pressed further and barely let the guests out of the defensive zone. A few of them came in front of the Salzburg Gate, but without becoming really dangerous. The Red Bulls worked out a few more opportunities, but could not increase their goals in a game that was almost rough in the end. The strong JP Lamoureux secured the 5-1 final score in the 58th minute with another save against Innsbruck’s Samuel Herr, who failed after solo at the Salzburg goalkeeper. In the end, the Red Bulls celebrated a clear victory, which was also well deserved, and were happy with the win against Dornbirn two days ago, six points from the last two home games of the old year.
