After the Dutch Grand Prix, won by Lando Norris and Max Verstappen in second place, Red Bull Racing’s lead over McLaren in the Constructors’ Championship was reduced to 30 points.
Red Bull motorsport consultant Helmut Marko admitted on Servus TV that he was worried about this development: “It is clear that we are losing, and this is a cause for concern. But I guess what the delay is [от McLaren] partly because of the characteristics of the road. In addition, the race was held in relatively low temperature conditions.
Interestingly, after the pit stop, Oscar Piastri was driving at the same pace as Lando, but when he caught Charles Leclerc, he couldn’t do anything with him and got stuck . Unfortunately, this didn’t happen to Lando when he passed Max.”
Speaking on another TV channel, German Sky, Marco identified the main problem in the race as tire wear on Verstappen’s car: “We couldn’t keep up with McLaren’s pace. At the start of the race we were driving at the same speed, but then the tires started to wear out. You saw how easily Lando passed Max.
On the last lap, Lando set the fastest time without DRS. This shows that McLaren was clearly better than us on this track.
It is also important to remember that Sergio Perez in the final period was faster than Max, and their cars were set up differently. We may have made a mistake by setting Max’s car for more strength. But this did not help in the corners, and the maximum speed on the rows was not high enough. We have a lot of work ahead of us, and a race like this gives us food.
Tire wear became a major problem. Max’s car began to slide and he could no longer attack. “
