Red Bull Motorsport Consultant Helmut Marko said that Red Bull Racing CEO Christian Horner was against the invitation of Nick de Vries to AlphaTauri. After eight races of the season, the driver from the Netherlands has no points earned, and now Marco is inclined to agree with Horner.
“Christian and I rarely have different opinions, but sometimes we disagree,” Marco told The Inside Line podcast. “I think the last time he and I had a disagreement was about Nick de Vries.
Judging by what is happening at the moment, Horner was right. Of course, AlphaTauri is not Red Bull Racing, but since we are all one family, I am interested in his opinion. And Christian wasn’t originally de Vries’ biggest fan.”
When asked why the contract was offered to Nick de Vries and not to Mick Schumacher, as suggested by AlphaTauri boss Franz Tost, Marco replied: “Throughout his career, Mick has been associated with Ferrari. Nick had a very successful race at Monza last year as a substitute and he fit in better with our philosophy.”
