Yuki Tsunoda caused a stir during the winter tests with surprisingly fast lap times, but during the season itself, the Japanese has so far stood out more negatively with his insults on the on-board radio and disappointing results. Team advisor Dr. Helmut Marko of Red Bull has seen enough and therefore sends his pupil to Italy on a training camp.
Tsunoda comes under the personal observation of AlphaTauri team principal Franz Tost in Faenza. “The youngster will then have to concentrate and learn that Formula 1 is the toughest motor sport in the world and that the work and the approach must therefore be done in the most professional way possible,” Marko said in conversation with the German. Formula 1.
According to Dr. Marko will have to undergo a strict training regime for Tsunoda in Italy. “His daily routine consists of karting for the condition, technical work in the factory and reading data and the like,” says Marko.
The Red Bull adviser acknowledges that Tsunoda’s development has certainly not yet had the desired result, “but with the mistakes that have been made, it is clear that his confidence has also suffered,” says Marko.
The Austrian therefore thinks that the move from England to Italy will do Tsunoda good. “He is not only supervised there, but can also live there in a certain safety. The potential is still there, we just have to lead it in the right direction.”
