Max Verstappen and Alexander Albon are not testing in the run-up to the Austrian Grand Prix. According to rumors, former engine supplier Renault does not want to supply engines for the RB14 from 2018. Verstappen said that he did not need a test in an old car and with different tires.
It is striking that Renault gets permission from Red Bull to test on the Red Bull Ring, the circuit owned by the energy drink manufacturer. On June 16 and 17, Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon will test in the 2018 Renault F1 car.
The French team follows the example of Ferrari and Mercedes. Both top teams also use the cars from 2018. In accordance with the F1 regulations, it is not allowed to use cars younger than two seasons. An exception to this is a film day, on which the teams may travel a maximum of 100 kilometers on demonstration tires. There is no limit to the number of laps to be taken with older cars.
