Red Bull F1 representative “Psychological warfare succeeds if Toto Wolff breaks headphones”[F1-Gate.com]

-Red Bull Racing F1 team principal Christian Horner has spoken about his relationship with Mercedes F1 team principal Toto Wolff.

Last year’s Red Bull-Mercedes rivalry spilled over off the track, with Christian Horner and Toto Wolff lashing out at the media more often than not throughout the season.

‘It was never personal!’ Christian Horner insisted he paid tribute to Wolff, but the Mercedes F1 boss was in a real title fight for the first time after years of F1 dominance. “I was able to annoy him,” he said in an interview with Sky Sports F1.

“Toto is Toto. He has done an amazing job at Mercedes. Obviously he came into the sport from a very different background than I do. He has a very economic background. ”

“And it’s very easy to get annoyed and you can see it. Sometimes it affects him. Last year the competition was very fierce and of course it was the first time he was in it. It’s always interesting to see how people react in that situation.”

“You know you can annoy them when they’re breaking headphones and stuff like that.”

Asked if he thought he was a better team boss than Toto Wolff, Christian Horner replied: “It’s not for me to judge…”.

“I am focused on what I am doing. You are the judge and the jury. Sometimes I get judged by Sky, but it’s not for me…I do what I do.” and he’s focused on what he’s doing.”

Christian Horner also explained that public perception of him and his style has never influenced him.

“If it bothers you, you shouldn’t do it,” said Horner, citing Alex Ferguson, who once coached Manchester United in the English Premier League.

“Looking at someone like Sir Alex Ferguson, I don’t think he ever worried about other managers or what people thought of him in the sport.

“My job is to do the best for my team and the people I represent. My priority and privilege is to do the best for the people I represent.”

“Whether it’s promoters, the FIA, getting the right shareholders and sponsors, the media, we’re doing the best we can with the tools we have. ”
