Red Bull F1 representative “Hard tires sacrificed Mercedes’ two wins”[F1-Gate.com]

Red Bull F1 team boss Christian Horner smiled saying hard tires cost Mercedes F1 two wins.

Red Bull Racing and the Mercedes F1 team have chosen different strategies for the Mexican F1 Grand Prix. In the end, Max Verstappen, who chose the average for the second stint, performed better and crossed the line ahead of Lewis Hamilton by a wide margin.

The Mercedes F1 team strategy was not an option for Red Bull Racing. Lewis Hamilton and George Russell adopted a different strategy starting with the medium before moving on to hard tires. Red Bull and Ferrari have opted for a soft to medium strategy. In the end it turned out to be the right choice.

“I am surprised that Mercedes has taken such a conservative approach,” Horner told Auto Motor und Sport.

“Dietrich Mateschitz taught me to take risks. The strategy was very aggressive.”

“The important thing was that Max controlled the soft tires very well in the first stint. He knows what he needs from the tires. Rice paddy”

Lewis Hamilton finished the race on hard tires at the American F1 GP. In the final stages of the race, there was no chance to match Max Verstappen on average. And the same thing happened in Mexico.

“Those tires cost Mercedes two wins,” Horner said with a smile.

Sergio Perez was unable to overtake Lewis Hamilton at the average. After the race, Perez made it clear that he was having difficulty following the other cars on the track and there was no overtaking.

But Christian Horner said Perez could have finished second if his pit stop hadn’t gone wrong.

“I think we would have won with the same strategy, but surely we would have been closer,” Horner added.
