Red Bull Racing have released a statement as a team to explain the situation after the team orders controversy for the Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix caused much speculation and abuse on social media.
Sergio Perez was sixth with a few laps to go in the Brazilian F1 Grand Prix, but Max Verstappen on new tires was dropped by his teammate to attack Fernando Alonso in fifth place.
However, Max Verstappen was unable to catch Fernando Alonso and was told to hand the position back to Perez. Perez is battling with Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) for second place in the drivers’ standings.
But Max Verstappen said: ‘Like I said last time, don’t ask me to do it again. are we clear on this? I have given my reasons and I support them.”
This has sparked much speculation and slander on social media, including reports that Max Verstappen has refused squad orders in retaliation for Sergio Perez’s deliberate crash during qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix. .
“As a team, we made mistakes in Brazil,” Red Bull Racing said in a statement.
“We didn’t anticipate the situation that happened on the last lap and we didn’t agree on a strategy for such a scenario before the race.”
“Unfortunately, Max was only informed of his request to give up the position at the last corner without being given all the information he needed. We found ourselves in a compromised situation where we had little time to do anything, but that was not our intention.”
“After the race, Max spoke openly and honestly, allowing both drivers to resolve any outstanding issues or concerns. The team is open to Max’s reasoning and will not comment further.”
