Red alert, Ventimiglia invaded by water, the Roya overflowed. In Genoa, Corso Torino, via Invrea, Corso Sardegna flooded

Shortly after midnight, the Roya river in Ventimiglia overflowed and the water invaded the streets, dragging everything it found, from cars to bins. At Torri, dozens of cars were dragged away by the current of the Bevera stream. Already from the first evening yesterday, concern had grown for some migrants who are usually camped at the Roya, the alarm was triggered by the president of the city council, Andrea Spinosi. The most complex situation, even at the first light of dawn, is recorded in Ventimiglia, invaded by mud (as documented by the photo on the homepage, by Marco Gallo, Facebook) where the historic Squarciafichi footbridge, symbol of Ventimiglia, collapsed, and later to this collapse the bridge that connects Ventimiglia to the historic center was also closed. About fifty inhabitants had to abandon their homes during the night, according to the evacuation plan of the Roya basin, the most problematic situation occurred in via Peglia. The hydrometric station of Airole has already recorded one of the maximum historical flows, the Roya exceeded 8 meters. The alert in the Ponente went from red to orange at 6am.

Arpal has updated the situation: “In the last few hours, the stationary storm structure that had persisted throughout the evening on the Ponente lost its intensity due to the attenuation of the southern humid flow and the simultaneous arrival of the cold front from France “, he communicates. The disturbance, decidedly attenuated and more fast, it crossed the whole of Liguria, arriving mildly in Tuscany The weather situation should improve in the next few hours, a new deterioration is expected in the evening today, Saturday.

Railway traffic on the Genoa-Ventimiglia line resumed, after an interruption this morning, due to a breakdown in the line between Spotorno and Finale.

In Genoa, due to the rupture of a pipe, corso Torino, corso Sardegna, via Tolemaide and via Invrea were flooded in the night, around 4. The water at the beginning of the morning has finally flowed out, but the traffic still comes in deviated part

The whole Ponente, last night, was cut down by rain and wind: in Badalucco with Argentina it was overflowing. On site there are volunteers from the Civil Protection and the Fire Brigade and the mayor has ordered the evacuation of several families. An ancient bridge was demolished, as did the bridge connecting Vessalico, where other people had to leave their homes for safety. Mendatica has suffered several blackouts and damage, so much so that the mayor Piero Pelassa declared that the situation “is worse than the flood of 2016”. Triora is isolated, in Dolceacqua the Nervia is flooded. The peak of the flood, however, passed at the mouth of the main streams: Roya, Nervia, Argentina, Arroscia, Neva and Centa and therefore the water level is slowly decreasing from the early hours of the morning.

Floods and fallen trees are reported almost everywhere in the region, due to the wind storm that is whipping the entire coast with gusts exceeding 100 km / h, while a very strong storm is mounting on all the coasts of Liguria. In Voltri, the streets are invaded by the water of the streams, while in Santa Margherita it is the sea that has entered the town. A large tree fell in the center of Genoa, in Corso Podestà, in the district of Carignano, fortunately without causing consequences for people or things. At the Piscine di Albaro, the pressure balloon covering the Olympic pool was torn apart by the wind and collapsed, the facility was closed. Floods are also reported in Sturla, where residents have begun to secure everything they can during the night while the sea rises in the streets and in via del Tritone. The road that runs from Santa Margherita to Portofino has been closed as a precaution, the storm is once again threatening that very delicate stretch of coast.
