Rome ∙ Italy is scorching in the scorching heat. The Ministry of Health issued a red alert heatwave warning in eight major cities, including Rome, as temperatures soared above 40 degrees Celsius. Bolzano, Florence, Frosinone, Lethna, Perugia, Turin, Rome and Rieti have been issued a level-three weather warning, issued only in the most urgent situations.

Health workers say that extreme caution should be taken during hot weather as adverse health changes may occur not only in the elderly and sick, but also in the young.
Sun exposure and outdoor activities should be avoided in the middle of the day. The Ministry of Health has advised drinking plenty of water, eating light meals and storing medicines properly. Pets should also be taken care of.
Rome is a city with many historic fountains. Tourists coming here are strictly prohibited from entering the watercourses. A fine of 450 Euros (Rs. 40,000) will be charged from those caught entering the water.
Orange alert is in place in Ancona, Bologna, Brescia, Campobasso, Milan, Pescara, Verona and Viterbo, where high temperatures have continued for more than a week.
