The health crisis situation has hit artists and people related to the world of entertainment and events, and culture in general. Now they unite under the slogan “Red Alert” to ask for aid for freelancers and companies, reduced VAT and the immediate reactivation of cultural agendas. The closures motivated by the measures adopted in the covid-19 crisis endanger the sector.
The state of alarm derailed everything. The concerts were canceled, the employees went to the ERTE and the expenses continued. Now the uncertainty in the entertainment sector and the celebration of events has also led workers and entrepreneurs in this sector to mobilize on social networks. And, for example, in Galicia you cannot give a concert in a room at eight in the afternoon, but you can in a wedding banquet hall. From the organization they comment that “we are being criminalized before we start, when you go to terraces or restaurants and see that there is much more risk there than in a concert in a hall”

Red Alert tries to fill the social profiles and balconies with red. With a clear objective: that society is aware of the number of people affected. In the last hours, the posts on the social networks of Galician artists, festivals or associations only share an image with the message: «Vermella alert, let’s face events».
Red Alert: Support for culture and events
This mobilization also extends to the national level. Throughout yesterday rallies were called in different cities (in Galicia in Lugo, Vigo and Santiago de Compostela). In all of them the manifesto prepared by the creators of the movement was read with all precautions
The Red Alert movement focuses on “recognizing the entertainment sector and the events sector among those mainly affected and prioritized” in addition to requesting “the immediate reactivation of the cultural and event agendas of public administrations under strict compliance with all health security protocols ”.
In addition, it calls for “the direct establishment of aid to self-employed workers and companies that prove a decrease in the volume of income of more than 50% in relation to the previous year.” Also requested “reduced VAT in sectors linked to the cultural, entertainment and tourism industry of congresses, meetings, incentives and events (MICE)”. And “a moratorium on ICO credits until the reactivation of the activity, understood as the recovery of 100% of the capacity.”
