This is becoming a recurring problem in the CHU emergency rooms, with medical staff constantly warning about the deterioration of their working conditions. After the “Zero stretcher in the corridors” operation on July 4, to denounce the conditions of reception of patients, the emergency departments are once again in the red, despite improvements announced by the ARS at the beginning of September.
They walked off the job yesterday (September 19), they are still doing it today. Emergency workers are once again at their wits’ end, victims of “disorganization” in their service and “a lack of resources” in the face of still too many patients.
The compulsory regulation of patients in advance has made it possible to reduce crowds in the evening but this is not the case during the day.
Yesterday, according to union organizations, there were 80% of patients waiting in the corridors, a situation that has been repeatedly denounced.
We cannot cope, due to a lack of beds following treatment. The sick remain in the ambulances, some in their cars. We are always under tension.
Jean Pierre Jean-Louis general secretary of FO health
A saturation confirmed by the department heads, who, a few days ago, believed in the new organization put in place by the ARS. Today (September 20), doctors fear a deterioration in the quality of care in emergency rooms. Worse still, staff are increasingly affected by this situation.
We find ourselves with zero stretchers available from 8am! What is worrying is that the medical staff are giving up. The entire service is in serious difficulty, there are people burning out.
Dr Yannick Brouste, head of emergencies at CHUM
Faced with this recurring problem which does not seem to have a solution despite the measures put in place by the ARS, a strike notice was filed for Tuesday September 26.
