A letter to the government after a year of uncertainty
Vienna/Austria (OTS) – Recreational educators who Kind in all-day schools, asking for clarity in a letter to the federal government: After a year of uncertainty, they want the certainty that a planned change to the law will not be passed in this legislative period. Otherwise they threaten to take protest action. Thousands of parents and children are also concerned.
Just a year ago, black-green plans were published that intended to make major changes to the professional field of leisure education. The workers criticized the threat of retrenchment and went on strike: it was the result of negotiations between the government, the GPA union and the works councils. The negotiations have ended, but without a satisfactory result: “Through our efforts, the government’s original plans could be mitigated, but overall they would still be a decline,” says Selma Schacht, chairman of the works council at “Bildung im Zentrum”, the most influential company in Austria.
“We have been uncertain for a year. 94% of colleagues reject the draft. We want clarity that the government will not push through the reform against our will. If this promise is not made, we will organize a warning strike on May 22, the anniversary of the publication. “We are there for thousands of children and their parents every day – we do not strike lightly,” said leisure educator Chantal Turel.
“We are always prepared to discuss the reform of schools throughout the day if there are improvements. But for a good reform, more resources and the participation and approval of everyday experts are needed,” said consultant Schacht.
