Frankfurt am Main (dpa/lhe) – The sharp rise in energy prices is also a major challenge for many zoos. The temperature in the animal enclosures is set individually according to the respective needs, said the head of the Exotarium in the Frankfurt Zoo, Johannes Köhler. The savings potential is limited. Depending on the heat requirements of the resident animals, zoos are affected to varying degrees by energy costs. For example, relatively few terrarium animals live in the Opel Zoo in Kronberg. Otherwise, only the homes of the elephants and giraffes are heated there.
