It is known that almost all the water has drained from the city of Nova Kahouka in southern Kherson province, which was flooded by the destruction of the Kahouka dam in Ukraine.

Energy supply will begin soon, and daily activities will be restored within a week.

Vladimir Saldo, head of administration for the Russian-occupied territories in Kherson province, said the water level in the lower Dnipro River in the city of Nova Kachowka was 3 meters below its peak on the 6th, and “works to pump water and collect garbage from the streets have begun”. .

He said that by the 16th, the water level of the Dnipro River in the area below the Kahouka Dam is likely to return to past levels.

77 residents were hospitalized in flood-affected areas in Kherson, and 7,000 people, including 323 children, were evacuated.

While restoration work is under way in flood-affected areas, the Black Sea coast is facing a serious pollution crisis due to the collapse of the Kahouka Dam.

Ukrainian authorities say rubbish washed up along the Dnipro River has turned the Black Sea port city of Odessa’s shores into a “garbage heap and animal cemetery”.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s state-owned nuclear power company Energoatom said in a statement that Unit 5, the last reactor at the Zaporizhia plant, was also shut down as a safety measure to prevent accidents.

Ukraine and Russia are blaming each other for the collapse of the Kahouka dam.
