His debut film ‘Girl’ was an overwhelming success. It won the Camera d’Or in 2018 and several Magritte Awards in 2019. Today Lukas Dhont starts shooting his long-awaited second feature film ‘Close’. “Here we go. The second,” he writes on Instagram with a photo of a clapperboard. For his film, Dhont chose a mix of young talent with some established values, such as Emilie Dequenne and Léa Drucker.

The film tells the story of two thirteen-year-old boys, Leo and Remi, whose intense friendship is abruptly cut short. Full of incomprehension, Leo approaches Sophie, Remi’s mother… ‘Close’ follows the path of a friend and a mother, in which vulnerability, identity and love are central. “Three years after the overwhelming journey we have traveled with ‘Girl’, we can finally get back on set, together with a talented cast and crew, which is great. All the more so with a story that is very close to my heart”, says Lukas Dhont.

Dhont wrote the screenplay himself, again in collaboration with co-writer Angelo Tijssens. The crew also mainly consists of people with whom Lukas has worked together before.
