It is Canariavisen reporting that it has been record warm in the sea in the Canary Islands this year. According to the online newspaper, it has not been this hot since the measurements started back in 1940.

– The Canary Islands have had an extremely hot and dry year in 2023. The annual average was 20.1 degrees Celsius, and the amount of precipitation was 25 percent below normal values. At the same time, the sea surface temperature was also the highest since 1940, writes the newspaper.

Robbed travelers for millions

Nettavisa refers to figures from the Spanish state meteorological agency “Aemet”, which show that the temperature is 1.5 degrees above normal.

– It was particularly dry in Las Palmas province, where only 85.4 mm of rain fell, which corresponds to 64 per cent of normal. The temperatures this winter will be above average according to the long-term forecasts, with and may rise to as much as three degrees above normal, writes Canariavisen.

The Meteorological Agency’s report shows that there is a 60 percent chance that the Canary Islands will experience a much warmer winter than normal.

Earlier in December, it was reported that a new tourist record is on the way in the Canary Islands.

The islands are about to reach 16 million tourists by the New Year, which will then surpass the record from 2017.
