Argentinians announced a fixed deal
A curious twist in the possibly imminent transfer of Thiago Almada to Atlanta United: After the Argentinian training club of the attacking midfielder, Atlético Vélez Sarsfield, announced the move as agreed and a record amount as a transfer fee, the Americans objected shortly afterwards.
“We saw the reports on Thiago Almada,” said MLS club Atlanta in a message. However, a fixed transfer has not yet been decided by a long way. “We can confirm that we hold an exclusive option to transfer the player permanently. The option extends until 2022. “For the time being, no comment will be made on the player.
We have seen reports about Thiago Almada. We have not committed to acquiring the player at this time; we can confirm that we retain an exclusive option to permanently transfer the player. The option extends into 2022. We will have no further comment on the player at this time.

Vélez had the thing that happened at night in Germany, with a transfer report. An “agreement on the final transfer” of Almadas had been reached with Atlanta. “The amount of the operation is $ 16,000,000,” wrote the Argentines. With that, Almada’s departure would come close to the highest-earning sale of a player at Vélez (Mauro Zárate also for around 15 million euros; one of the most expensive sales by Vélez). Converted, it could also be a record purchase for Atlanta, making it the most expensive player transfer in MLS history.
Almada himself spoke about an imminent move early in November. “I’m going to switch to Atlanta United in the January transfer window, that’s true,” said the player, who was nominated for the first time for the Argentine national team, opposite the “TyC Sports” show “Paso a Paso”. “The deal is closed, but not yet official,” said the young professional about a month ago. So far, however, the deal with Atlanta does not seem to include more than an agreement on a preferential transfer.
An understanding was reached with the Major League Soccer (MLS) for the definitive transfer of the federative rights of Thiago Almada in favor of Atlanta United FC. The amount of the operation is US $ 16,000,000. The agreement would enter into force at the beginning of February 2022 pic.twitter.com/dLi6U1wR3Y
