Record! This Indian Airline Orders Hundreds of New Planes, Value IDR 1,520 T

Jakarta

Air India has set a new record in aircraft purchase deals. The airline recently reportedly agreed to purchase around 470 new aircraft valued at more than US$ 100 billion or the equivalent of Rp. 1,520 trillion (exchange rate of Rp. 15,200).

This amount is the largest single order in the world by one airline. The deal is split equally between France’s Airbus and rival plane maker Boeing.

Reported from Reuters, Wednesday (15/2/2023), Air India has agreed to purchase 250 Airbus aircraft divided between 210 A320neo single aisle and 40 A350 wide body. Then, a total of 220 aircraft were ordered from Boeing including 190 narrow body 737 MAX, 20 787 wide body and 10 777X jets.

Airbus and Air India signed the agreement on Friday (10/2). Meanwhile Boeing agreed to its deal with the airline on January 27, 2023, marking one year since the Tata Group acquired ownership of the former state-run airline.

Airbus itself declined to comment. Meanwhile Air India also did not immediately respond.

In a note to employees on January 27, 2023, the airline said it was completing a historic order for the new aircraft.

The order reflects Air India’s strategy to modernize its aging fleet and recapture most of the travel between India’s large overseas diaspora from cities such as Delhi and Mumbai, which are dominated by Gulf Arab rivals such as Emirates with its planes. young.
