With “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, Mariah Carey once again took first place in the chart, but a lot of Christmas music was played in 2020 beyond this classic.
Listening to the music in which the world is still all right: In 2020, more holiday songs were heard during Christmas week than in any previous year – GfK reports a new record.
After a historically difficult year 2020, the Germans apparently had a particularly great desire for cuddly, kitsch Christmas sound, with which the world is still reasonably in order. The recently published GfK (Society for Consumer Research) charts show that festive songs during Christmas week were more popular than ever. In the corresponding chart week of the previous year, 51 out of 100 songs were assigned to the Christmas genre. This record was clearly exceeded in 2020: A full two thirds of the single top 100 currently consist of holiday songs, as the GfK reports.
At the top of the Christmas charts, as is so often the case, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” landed before the Wham! Classic “Last Christmas”. Chris Rheas “Driving Home For Christmas” took third place. The first non-Christmas song only comes in 18th (“Jerusalema” by Master KG).

5th place (female, national): Ava Max
In the Spotify list of the female artists most streamed in Germany in 2020, she ranks fifth: Ava Max. The US musician (“Sweet But Psycho”) seems to be even more popular in this country than in her home country: her debut album “Heaven & Hell” ( 2020) took seventh place in the German charts, in the USA it was “only” 27th place.

4th place: Juju
Juju’s big year was actually 2019, when the SXTN rapper released her solo debut “Bling Bling” and was awarded the 1-Live crown twice (picture), but her songs were in great demand again in 2020. In addition to “2012”, a collaboration with Bausa, the hit “Kein Wort” in particular caused a sensation, which she sang with Loredana.

3rd place: Billie Eilish
It goes without saying that it comes as no big surprise: Billie Eilish is a global pop phenomenon and is therefore very popular with German listeners. Third place for the young US musician.

2nd place: Lea
Lea has been one of the great high-flyers in German pop in recent years, and her success will also be reflected in the streaming charts in 2020. The singer lands in second place, which certainly has something to do with her this year’s album “Staircase”, but also with Lea’s TV appearances on “The Voice of Germany ” and “Sing mein Song”.

1st place: Loredana
Attention, the artist most streamed in Germany in 2020 does not come from Germany or the USA , but from Switzerland: Loredana, the rapper with Kosovar roots, was the measure of all things this year. She sang “Kein Wort” with Juju, but in 2020 she also landed four more top 5 hits.

5th place: UFO361 (male, national)
German female musicians are still celebrating success with pop, while the trend of the past few years among men has continued: the most popular musicians are all rappers. Platz 4: Bonez MC
The 187 street gang also leaves their scent mark, this time with Bonez MC. In 2020 the man from Hamburg released a solo album for the first time since 2012, and twice that, which is always good for the streaming record: “Hollywood Uncut” was released just a few weeks after “Hollywood”. Fourth place.

3rd place: Samra
The German rap community had been waiting longingly for this album: Samra (picture) concentrated on singles for a long time and worked successfully with Capital Bra (“Berlin lives 2”) before his full-length debut “Jibrail & Iblis” was finally released in 2020. Number one in the charts, 22 weeks in the hit parade, position three in the Spotify ranking.

2nd place: Apache 207
First many singles, then in 2020 the first album (“Staircase”): Apache 207 took a similar path to the top as Samra, but ended up even higher in the Spotify ranking: second place for the Turkish-born “Roller” rapper.

1st place: Capital Bra
You don’t have to introduce the man anymore, he’s been the top boss in German rap for years. “CB7” (September 2020) is not only Capital Bra’s fourth top 5 album in three years (three times number one), but with 21 tracks it is perfectly suited to generate many counts in the Spotify counting system. First place in the ranking, what else.

5th place: Halsey (female, worldwide)
Fifth place in the list of the internationally most streamed artists is a little surprise: US musician Halsey landed with her big hit “Maniac” only in second place in the American album charts (13th in Germany ). But what benefited her: The record was released in January and was able to collect clicks throughout the year.

Platz 4: Dua Lipa
Dua Lipa has been playing in the premier pop league for years, including internationally, and will be fourth in 2020. Why? Maybe because she released her music at a time when no one else dared. The album “Future Nostalgia” was released at the end of March, when the coronavirus was just starting to paralyze the whole world .

–
–
–
3rd place: Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande can now do whatever she wants, in the end she always has success – but she also knows how to do it the smartest in the streaming age. The Weeknd, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Ty Dolla Sign: They all sang with Ariana Grande in 2020 and helped to raise her to third place in the ranking of the world ’s most listened to women .

–
Platz 2: Taylor Swift
Sure, you can’t buy a lot from first place on this list (at least not necessarily much more than second place), but Taylor Swift will be a little annoyed that she does not come out as the winner here for once. Which woman might it have been who performed even better than TayTay?

–
1st place: Billie Eilish
Sure, pop prodigy Billie Eilish. When she brings out new music, the internet runs hot right away, whether on YouTube or Spotify. First place for Billie Eilish, as in the previous year – even though she released “only” three new songs and no album in 2020.
–
–
–
–
–
5th place: The Weeknd (artist, worldwide)
Among the men most streamed internationally, many would have guessed it to be number one: The Weeknd ran in a loop from the release of his album “After Hours”, but “only” comes in fifth in the Spotify ranking. However: With “Blinding Lights” he delivered the most streamed song – almost 1.6 billion views were recorded!

Place 4: Juice Wrld
Juice Wrld died in December 2019 at the age of only 21, but his way up at least continued in the charts anyway. The rapper is in fourth place, to which the posthumous release of the album “Legends Never Die” in July 2020 certainly contributed.
–
–
–
–
–
3rd place: J Balvin
J Balvin is still something of an insider tip in Germany after a good ten years of career and seven albums. But he probably doesn’t care at all, because the Colombian reggaeton musician has long been a megastar, especially in the Spanish-speaking world . Third place.

–
2nd place: Drake
At least since his 2018 album “Scorpion” with 25 tracks has been clear: Drake knows how to make a lot of money with Spotify. It has a beat and is over two minutes long? Then it’s a song, out with it! In 2020, the Canadian held back halfway (a mixtape with only 14 demos was released), yet he landed at the top of the ranking again: second place.
