According to REN statistics, the record month in this respect so far was July 2024, when the share of energy from photovoltaic panels reached 15%.
The Portuguese electricity supplier said that after eight months of this year, renewable energy was responsible for almost 80 percent of the country’s electricity consumption.
The share of energy generated from photovoltaic panels in Portugal’s total electricity consumption reached almost 10% between January and August.
The largest share, over 35 percent, of electricity consumed in Portugal in 2024 continues to be that of energy from hydropower plants.
Due to the drought this summer, in July and August the share of hydroelectric power plants in the production of electricity consumed in Portugal was lower – it oscillated at the level of 14%.
