Record Participation and Emotional Victories at the 6th Edition of the Bruges Marathon

The 6th edition of the Bruges marathon saw nearly 6,700 participants take part in its two major distances, the 42.195 km and the 21.1 km. A record for an event which, for this edition, offered adapted and more pleasant routes for the runners.

Koen Naert, as in 2022, won the Bruges half-marathon in 1h04.27. The Bruges resident won ahead of Giani Vanden Broucke, 2nd in 1h07.27, and the Brussels native Sergio Strollo, 3rd in 1h07:56. Koen Naert, who has already run the distance 1h01:38, is preparing for the New York marathon on Next November 5.

A victory full of emotion for Koen Naert, who pointed to the sky while crossing the finish line, in tribute to his partner’s grandfather who died on Saturday evening.

Among the ladies in Bruges, victory went to Elisa Vancolen in 1h20.17. ahead of Lutgard Goethals (1h22:01) and Virginie Soenen (1h24:55).

The marathon, which attracted more than 2,000 participants, saw the success of Michiel Van Der Bauwhede (2h28.36.) and the American Christy Murphy (3h04.10).
