Other countries in Europe have also reported a jump in infections
Germany today announced 33,949 new infections with Covid-19, the largest number since the beginning of the pandemic last year, Reuters reported.
Other countries in Europe have also reported a surge in coronavirus infections, leading to a debate about the need to impose restrictions and persuade more people to get vaccinated.
Probably, the jump in cases in Germany was caused by the day off in some parts of the country on Monday, due to which the statistics slowed down. The previous record is from December 18 – 33,777 cases.
Helge Brown, Chancellor Angela Merkel’s chief of staff, said the provinces should provide booster doses of the vaccine for the elderly more quickly.
As of Wednesday, only 6.7% of people over the age of 60 in Germany have received a booster dose, according to the Robert Koch Institute.
