The latest hurricane to form over the Atlantic Ocean breaks the record of named storms in a hurricane season. The 2005 record was 27 named tropical storms. Eta is now added and the season will last until November 30th.
Tropical Storm Eta formed on the Caribbean Sea south of Jamaica and is rapidly increasing in strength to hurricane strength over the next two days, says Weather plaza. Especially the border area between Honduras and Nicaragua can prepare for the hurricane, which will probably make landfall on Wednesday.
So far, four hurricanes have grown into the third category: Laura, Teddy, Delta and Epsilon. Eta could become the fifth.
Zeta
The previous hurricane, Zeta, of the second category, swept across the southeastern United States last Thursday. At least six people died. Two million people in various southern states were temporarily without power.
A number of polling stations that were already open for next Tuesday’s elections had to close temporarily.
