Record number of corona infections in Germany: 34,000 positive tests in one day Abroad

As a result, healthcare is also coming under increasing pressure. There were 2226 corona patients in intensive care on Wednesday, the highest number since the beginning of June.

“At the moment we are mainly dealing with a pandemic of the unvaccinated and it is huge,” Health Minister Jens Spahn warned this week. According to the minister, fewer and fewer beds are available in intensive care in some regions.

A spokesman for the national government has already made it clear that “further restrictions on unvaccinated people” are possible if the situation in hospitals deteriorates further. Health ministers of German federal states will meet on Thursday to discuss the corona situation in the country and possible new measures. The country with more than 80 million inhabitants is approaching 100,000 corona-related deaths.

Warning WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) is deeply concerned about the rising number of corona infections in Europe. The director in Europe Hans Kluge warns that according to “a reliable forecast” another half a million corona deaths will occur before February.

The coronavirus is spreading rapidly in the 53 countries that are in the European area of ​​the health organization. Of all new infections reported worldwide last week, 59 percent came from these countries. That includes 48 percent of all reported deaths.

The number of confirmed positive tests has also been rising rapidly in our country in recent weeks. The average number of positive tests has increased fivefold in one month. In late September and early October, there were an average of about 1,600 new cases per day, and on Tuesday, the average was nearly 8,000.

The number of hospitalizations and deaths is also rising rapidly. To turn the tide, the cabinet announced a number of measures on Tuesday, such as the expansion of corona tickets and the obligation to face masks.
