More companies filed for bankruptcy in Finland last year than at any other time this millennium. According to the statistics office of the northern European country, almost 15,000 jobs have been lost as a result, broadcaster Yle reports today, January 22.
According to the Finnish Consumer Agency, 1,592 new companies were created in the construction sector last year. At the same time, almost 800 firms in this area went bankrupt.
Some of them were large employers in their communities. Thus, in the Finnish city of Pyh, one of the largest bankruptcies of the year occurred on the territory of the local municipality, when the private house developer Jukkatalot went bankrupt.
The largest number of jobs lost due to the record financial insolvency of business entities in 2023 was lost in Helsinki – almost 3,800.
As a result of last year’s bankruptcies, a total of 2 billion euros disappeared from the Finnish economy, Yle notes.
Statistics Finland last week presented bankruptcies figures in the country. Last year, 3,315 local companies filed for financial insolvency, a quarter more than in 2022.
Let us remind you that Finland joined the anti-Russian sanctions that Brussels introduced against the Russian Federation in 2022.
