Record Low Temperatures Hit Bulgaria: Yellow Code Announced in 17 Areas

It’s minus 16 degrees the lowest temperature recorded today in our country – on Mount Murgash. This is what the NIHM data show as of 8:00 p.m. on January 9. The temperature was minus 14 degrees in the village of Botev, minus 11 degrees in Rozhen, and in Cherni vrah the mercury in the thermometers showed -10.

Temperatures drop to minus 9°: Cold weather code yellow in 17 areas

In urbanized areas the coldest was in the regions of Veliko Tarnovo and Razgrad – minus 8 degrees. In Dobrich, Shumen, Svishtov, Pleven and Lovech, forecasters have measured a degree more – minus 7.

In Sofia this evening the temperature was -5 degrees. The warmest was in Sandanski, near Ahtopol and on Cape Shabla – only 0 degrees.

A yellow code for low temperatures has been announced in 17 areas for tomorrow, January 10 – Sofia-city, Sofia-region, Vidin, Pernik, Kyustendil, Vratsa, Montana, Lovech, Pleven, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Ruse, Targovishte, Shumen, Silistra, Varna, Dobrich, NIMH warns.

Wednesday morning will be frosty with minimum temperatures between minus 9° and minus 4°, in Sofia – around minus 8°.

Weather in January: From -13 to 18 degrees

During the day it will be mostly sunny but cold. The wind will weaken, only in the extreme eastern areas it will remain moderate from the north. The maximum temperatures will be between minus 3° and 2°, in Sofia – about 1°.
