Record Influx of Bulgarian and Romanian Tourists Flock to Halkidiki, Greece

This year sees an exceptionally huge influx of Bulgarian and Romanian tourists to Halkidiki, Greece, perhaps a record for the moment.

“Unfortunately, the benefit to our Black Sea coast is not accelerating. The vision of our hoteliers along the sea is too false, that if they drink water from the sea and eat the mussels from the shells, they will make the Bulgarians return.”

Dimitar Popov, head of the Association of Tour Operators, shared this on Euronews Bulgaria.

“This is a rather complex development. Many years have passed until the moment when we refuse the Bulgarians to go to our sea – for the most part, the vacationers in Greece have been to our sea. We refused them, and at this moment we want to return them from I don’t see how that’s going to happen,” he added.

Here’s what else the tour operator showed:

This year sees an exceptionally huge influx of Bulgarian and Romanian tourists to Halkidiki, Greece. And from the Balkans in general. Maybe a record for the moment.

The interest of Bulgarians in Greece is huge and it is due to two things: the unpleasant weather in our country in June and what happened in Ukraine – the release of water (at the “Nova Kakhovka” dam – note ed.). If some Bulgarians and Romanians were “on the scales”, they chose Greece – for safer.

There are no exact data on the number of Bulgarians who traveled to Greece. It is said that one million Bulgarians vacation in Greece. For me, as a tour operator, the problem is not how many Bulgarians vacation in Greece, but that they like it.
