KONTAN.CO.ID – BEIJING. A record total of 300,000 Musang King durians sold out in less than an hour in an online flash sale in China.
Launch The Star, Yesterday’s online sale was part of the 2020 China-Malaysia (Guangxi) online durian festival in Qinzhou city, China.
With a total weight of around 60 tons, the durian was sold out in exactly 50 minutes 48 seconds with sales recorded at around 61.2 million Malaysian ringgit or US $ 14.7 million, which is equivalent to Rp 221 billion (exchange rate of Rp 14,734).
The record sale was announced at the launch of the durian festival, which was conducted online from three sites – in Qinzhou, in Kuala Lumpur and Raub, Pahang.
The Prime Minister’s special envoy to China Tiong King Sing said he was confident that Malaysian durian exports to China would ultimately contribute to bilateral trade between the two countries.

According to statistics, China imported 600,000 tonnes of durian worth US $ 1.7 billion last year, with 7,700 tonnes of durian worth US $ 67 million coming from Malaysia.
“Despite the outbreak of Covid-19, I am confident that Malaysia’s durian demand will not be threatened,” he said in a speech read by Malaysia-China business board director Datuk Fong Tian Yong at an event in Kuala Lumpur.
“We must continue to increase this number to benefit both countries in terms of economy, and to share resources, culture and knowledge,” he added.
