The highest temperature in central Tokyo rose to 27.5 degrees Celsius on the 7th, breaking the highest temperature for November in 100 years, the Yomiuri Shimbun and NHK reported. The previous record for highest temperature was 27.3 degrees on November 1, 1923.

The weather was rough, with strong winds blowing through central Tokyo at 7:30 a.m. that day. The maximum instantaneous wind speed reached 19.8 meters. During the day, warm air came in from the south. Around 12:30 p.m., the temperature in central Tokyo rose to 27 degrees.

According to local media, this is the first time in 14 years since 2009 that a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius or higher was recorded in November. Also, since the beginning of this year, the number of days classified as summer in central Tokyo has increased to 141, setting a new record since the first observation.

The highest temperature in central Tokyo exceeded 25 degrees for the second day in a row, following the previous day’s record of 25.1 degrees.

The Japan Meteorological Agency considers any time the maximum temperature exceeds 25 degrees Celsius to be a “summer day,” but Yomiuri reported that this is the first time in the history of observation that summer days have appeared for two consecutive days in November, as winter begins.

On this day, warm air flowed into the Kanto region, which includes Tokyo, and neighboring regions, and unprecedentedly high maximum temperatures were observed in various places.

Kofu City in Yamanashi Prefecture recorded a temperature of 28.4 degrees Celsius, while Odawara City in Kanagawa Prefecture and Sakura City in Chiba Prefecture each recorded a temperature of 28.1 degrees Celsius.

However, Japan’s weather is expected to return to normal temperatures soon.

At around 9 p.m., the weather media outlet Weathermap warned that temperatures would drop and cold winds would blow, but warned, “The situation will clearly change from Kesato, so we need to be careful about what we wear.”

The same media reported that temperatures will drop enough to cause snow in the flatlands of northern Tohoku this weekend, and that eastern and western Japan will also be enveloped in the chilly air typical of late autumn.
