Record Heatwave Sweeps Across Netherlands and United Kingdom

Not only in the Netherlands, but also in the United Kingdom, the warmest June ever measured was recorded last month. It became an average of 15.8 degrees.

The temperature last month was 0.9 degrees higher than the previous record in the UK, the British weather institute Met Office reports. That average temperature of 14.9 degrees was measured in 1976.

For a large part of the month it was 25 degrees and sometimes even above 30 degrees. The highest temperature measured was 32.2 degrees. That is exceptional for the UK. Moreover, it was not only warm, but also extremely sunny.

The British weather service points to climate change. The odds of breaking the previous record have doubled since 1940.

The June heat record was also broken in the Netherlands this year. The average temperature was 19.5 degrees. That is 1.3 degrees higher than last year’s record. The sun shone for 327 hours, where that number is normally 214.
