The floods in Isère did not cause any casualties but many traffic routes were cut. The decline is expected in the evening but should occur slowly. In Gières, the M’TAG installations are threatened by water. Isère reached unprecedented levels this Wednesday, close to those of the 2015 flood.
The decline of Isère was to begin this Wednesday, November 15 in the evening, but not enough for the risk to be completely eliminated. So, Isère remained on orange alert at the end of the daylike six other departments including Drôme and Savoie.
The watercourse reached levels not seen for a decade, in Grenoble, to rise to 3.46 meters at midday at the Bastille station, according to Vigicrues. This level exceeds that of the 2001 flood (3.14 m) and is close to the extraordinary flood of 2015 (3.54 m). In 1859, a historic flood was measured at 5.23 meters in the city center.

The flow of the Isère has broken a record. It was thus established at 1,016 cubic meters per second, at 2 p.m. this Wednesday. Its previous record, recorded during the 2015 flood, was 980 cubic meters per second.
The height of the scale is not expected to drop below 3 meters and the flow slows to less than 900 cubic meters per second before 10 p.m.
The process therefore promises to be slow, so much so that many roads remain closed to traffic due to these floods. The prefecture reminds you of the imperative not to travel on foot, by bike or by car on these submerged roads.
According to a communication from the Grenoble Metropolis, this concerns in particular the bank route (Corato route) and the greenways around the Isère, in Grenoble.
In La Tronche, the Charpenay and Yermoloff quays and a section of Boulevard de la Chantourne are inaccessible.
The farmers’ path and the access ramp to Meylan are also flooded.
This evening, firefighters launched a major pumping operation at the M’TAG depot in Gières, the metropolis’s public transport network. Trams are stored there in a 20,000 square meter warehouse.
“There are strategic installations and very expensive maintenance tools, industrial tools” to be preserved, indicate the Isère emergency services who mobilized around thirty personnel to the scene. The 105 agents working on site were evacuated at the end of the morning.
The courtyard of Le Chamandier college is also under water, but students should be able to be welcomed normally this Thursday morning, if the level does not continue to rise.

Across the department, no casualties have been reported according to the Isère firefighters and very few houses have been affected. Six interventions were carried out in cellars and reconnaissance operations undertaken, but other operations could take place in the evening, when the water will begin to recede.
The decline should also take place in the coming hours in the downstream Isère, in Saint-Gervais and in the Haute Combe de Savoie. The decline is expected to continue throughout the night, returning this Thursday to levels below vigilance thresholds.
