Record demand for Russian weapons after the military campaign in Syria – 2024-08-12 04:22:50

/ world today news/ After the start of the Russian air force operation in Syria, the interest of foreign countries in Russian weapons has grown sharply, Kommersant wrote on Monday (March 28) in an article quoted by RT. According to the publication, Russia has spent about 30 billion rubles ($442 million at the exchange rate as of March 28, 2016) on the campaign, but it is possible to get much more from it.

The daily notes that Moscow is hoping for serious economic dividends, mainly related to a significant increase in demand for weapons and equipment used in Syria by external clients and the Russian Ministry of Defense. According to experts, the amount of potential export contracts in the coming years may reach $6-7 billion.

In the first stages of the operation, the Russian space forces relied mainly on proven equipment such as modernized Su-24M bombers and Su-25SM attack fighters, but soon Su-34 bombers, Su-30SM fighters, and finally the latest Su-35S.

Various helicopters were also sent to Khmeimim, and the airbase itself was closely surrounded by anti-aircraft rocket-gun complexes “Pantsir-S1”, as well as Buk-M2 and S-400 “Triumph” anti-aircraft defense systems.

Modern KAB-500S, as well as Kh-101 and Kh-555 cruise missiles were used to strike targets. The strikes with Kalibr-NK missiles from the waters of the Mediterranean and Caspian seas also showed the new capabilities of Russian weapons.
