In the past quarter, nearly 340,000 people who were still in paid work in the first quarter became unemployed. This group became unemployed or left the labor market – temporarily or otherwise – according to figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics on Friday (CBS).
The number of so-called job-leavers means a record decrease in the number of workers. According to Statistics Netherlands, it was mainly receptionists, catering staff and taxi drivers who were out of work in the second quarter.
Conversely, 208,000 people who were still at home up to and including April found paid work in the second quarter, which reduced the number of people with a job by 132,000 on balance. According to Statistics Netherlands, it is customary for the number of workers to increase in the second quarter. The 340,000 job-leavers included 175,000 men and 163,000 women.
