The New York weather was right: Valentine’s Day 2016 was the coldest day in New York since the weather began to keep records in 1860! The peak was recorded yesterday in Central Park, in the early morning, with -18.3°C, beating the previous record of -16.6°C set in 1916, 100 years ago.
With the wind, the perceived temperature plunged to -28.3°C. Exactly what had been planned! Those who had the courage to step outside yesterday were able to contemplate the frozen Bryant Park fountain.
Further drop in temperatures expected
The forecasts to come are fortunately less chilling. After a morning well below 0°C today, temperatures are expected to turn positive in the afternoon, with a high of 8°C. The week will show equally positive temperatures in the afternoon and, next weekend, the maximum will rise to 12°C, in other words summer in comparison with Valentine’s Day.
But this will not last: a further drop in temperatures is expected for the following week, with again negative temperatures for Tuesday February 24, 2016, from -1°C in the morning to -4°C at the hottest of the day. Beware of temperature differences between morning and afternoon: Friday February 26 will range from -7°C in the morning to 2°C in the afternoon.
