Record Cold August 6 in the Netherlands: A Break from Worldwide Heat Trends

Heat records will be broken worldwide this summer, but that does not apply to the Netherlands. This Sunday was the coldest August 6 ever measured in our country.

The maximum temperature in De Bilt was 15.8 degrees today. That is a date cold record, Weeronline reports. The old record was 15.9 degrees and dated back to 1941. The last time an official date cold record was measured was September 18, 2022. The time before that was October 6, 2019.

Also nationally there is a date cold record on Sunday. In Maastricht, the maximum temperature was 14.4 degrees. The old record, from 1987, was 14.8 degrees. This was measured in Deelen.

It is striking that the temperatures throughout the country varied considerably. In De Bilt it became 15.8 degrees, while in Nieuw-Beerta it became 22.6 degrees and in Rotterdam 19.3 degrees.

This year, two date heat records have been broken in De Bilt so far, on New Year’s Day and on July 8.
