Record-Breaking World Powerlifting Championship: Dubai 2023

The World Powerlifting Championship “Dubai 2023”, which concluded the day before yesterday, witnessed the breaking of seven world records, and the UAE stars had a share of medals, amounting to five medals in the “Masters” category (for those over 45 years old). The medals came through silver and bronze for Muhammad Khamis for the weight of 97 kg, gold for Ahmed Khamis in his age group, then silver for the general total, and another silver medal for the best lift.

The best Arab results in the “elite” category came with the teams of Egypt and Jordan, who shared the only gold medal, with the Egyptians excelling in the general ranking, by winning two silver medals and two bronze medals, compared to the Jordanians, who settled for gold in winning a silver medal and the same bronze medal. Jordan’s gold came through the weightlifter, Abdul Karim Khattab, in the weight of 88 kg. While the only gold for the Egyptians came through the quadruple Rehab Ahmed in the weight of 55 kg.

On the other hand, the World Championship in Dubai was a witness to the breaking of seven world records, most notably in the Arab world with the Jordanian weightlifter Abdul Karim Khattab, the only Arab who succeeded in setting a world record in the weight of 88 kg, with a lift of 251 kg. Then the Nigerian Owenishi Mark, with a lift of 144 kg at a weight of 61 kg, and at a weight of 79 kg through the Brazilian Maria de Andrea, with a lift of 151 kg, and the Nigerian Califa, who is known for lifting 151 kg from a weight of 73 kg, and at a weight of 86 kg, a number for the Chinese Vivi Zeng, with a lift of 158 kg. And sixth, the Chinese Ling Ling, with a lift of 120 kg in the weight of 45 kg, and finally the Malaysian Bunni Bunyan Justin, in the weight of 72 kg, with a lift of 231 kg.

In the sport of “People of Determination”, he stressed: “We look forward to continuing the path of success in hosting major international events for people of determination.”

The technical director of the International Federation for Powerlifting, Qadir Qamar, directed to honor the Supreme Organizing Committee, along with representatives of the Dubai Club for People of Determination, before the head of the Egyptian delegation, Imad Ramadan, was handed the flag of hosting the next edition in 2025.
