– There was a cool start to June, but eventually high pressure brought warm and dry weather in large parts of the country, says climate researcher Jostein Mamen.
This resulted in an average national temperature that was more than 2.6 degrees above normal. This is what the Meteorological Institute writes in a new press release on Monday.
Consequently, this month of June was the fourth warmest recorded since this type of measurement began in 1900.

Broke the sunshine hour record
– Both Oslo and old Akershus county had the warmest June in the measurement series that started in 1900. Oslo also broke the record for the number of hours of sunshine recorded in June, says Mamen.
A total of 15 records were set for maximum temperatures in June, writes the Meteorological Institute in the press release.
Very dry
In addition, there has been 45 per cent less rainfall than normal throughout the country. This month of June was thus the 8th driest that has been measured.
– We see that, on the whole, both months were dry in southern Norway. For the country as a whole, this year’s June was drier than in 2018, says Mamen.
The Meteorological Institute writes that it was “very dry” in Eastern Norway, in Trøndelag and in the far north. It was also “dry” and “very dry” in large parts of Western Norway.
The wettest was in Nordland county, with 10 per cent less rainfall than normal.
