Record-Breaking Vintage Car and Motorcycle Auction in Lysá nad Labem: 32 Out of 33 Lots Sold, Exceeding 13 Million CZK

According to the vintage car and motorcycle auction Retro Garage, which took place on Saturday 23 November in Lysá nad Labem, it seems that there is no crisis yet. 32 machines out of 33 offered were sold here and the turnover exceeded 13 million kroner.

A veterans auction in November produced several records. It was the largest in history to date, with a total of 33 cars and motorcycles up for grabs, and the turnover of the auction items exceeded 13 million, and it was only this spring that Retro Garage crossed the ten million conversion mark for the first. hour.

Finally, an American Harley Davidson, a “non-Czechoslovak” motorcycle, which is more popular among domestic collectors, was sold at auction. One exhibit, the Laurin & Klement Škoda 110, did not find a new owner this time, although it was a very nice example.

“I was surprised that the Jawa 500 OHV Rumpál sold for more than the Praga BD 500, it proves that people like big Jawas more than anything else. I’m happy that the Harley Davidson was sold, it’s my favorite,” says process auction organizer Pavel Kočí. In the past, Harley was once offered at an auction in Lysá nad Labem, but no one showed interest in it then.

That’s why Kočí always chooses carefully which vintage cars, whether it’s a car or a motorcycle, he will take for auction, if they are not domestic brands. For example, out of a total of 31 machines that he offered at the spring auction, two were not sold, the British motorcycle BSA 500 and “Fantomas'” Citroën DS 19. In short, like with the Czech population domestic brands and this is only changing very slowly.

Kočí continues by saying that Wikov surprised him a lot. “Suddenly I felt like I was at a big prestigious auction, because two older gentlemen were fighting for it until the last minute,” describing the course of the auction, said the organizer Pavel Kočí The luxurious pre-war limousine 7/28 from 1930 comes from the Veteran Arena Olomouc collection and was auctioned for just 1.6 million crowns.

The new owner only participated in one auction, he was only interested in the reference Wikov. “I am putting together a collection of old cars from Czechoslovak brands and I lost the classic Wikov. Although I had a ceiling of 1.5 million, I am very happy that I finally allowed myself some sleep,” said the old a gentleman with a mustache who comes from northern Bohemia. He auctioned at the Retro Garage for the second time, last year he bought a Wikov ambulance here.

In the auction, he was fighting with the gentleman with number 52. “I am bidding for the first time. I was sorry that I gave up in the end. I don’t know where to go the price, but Wikov for 1.6 million is simply a good buy,” he assessed the man after the event, who also has a smaller collection of vintage cars.

“For example, I have a Tatra 57 Hadimrška, Wikov would be suitable for it. This is my third time at the Retro Garage, last year old cars were sold here for such huge amounts and I decided to participate in -year not only as an observer, “he said, adding that he also likes all collectors of rare old cars, he prefers not to publish his name.

Although the world of veterans has been talking about the fact that the prices of more common examples have fallen, or at least they are not increasing at all, and that fewer machines are being sold in general , at the Retro Garage auction in Lysá nad Labem, there is no urgency. Rumpál’s Jawa 500 OHV was sold for 1,270,000 crowns. Jawa 500 OHC 15/00 type called auger was sold for 1.36 million.

Other cars before the war, except for Laurinka, were also sold at auction for reasonable amounts, and these are much more difficult to sell, because nostalgia does not play a part in them. An interested person bought Jawu sports 250/553 Libeňák for 260,000 very well on the phone.

Auctions of motorcycles and mopeds sold from the crown have traditionally been popular. For example, Stadion S11 was sold for 55,000, Jawetta 50/551 Sport for 61,000. Often there was the ČZ 150 Orthopedia, which jumped from a starting price of 65,000 to 106,000 crowns.

It was also interesting to see if there would be more interest in the Škoda Garde or the Rapid 130. And that’s because the Rapid in a completely rare metallic blue had an interesting story, it was bought by the opera singer Naděžda Kniplová and owned by the presenter, entertainer and podcaster Luděk Stand. In the end, Rapida got interested on the phone for 320,000, Garde went to the world for ten thousand crowns more.

A funny point at the end was given by the gentleman who was at the end selling the last car available, the Tatra 12 Normandie. He signed for the first time during the entire auction day just before the hammer was struck and won for an attractive crown 310,000. It also suddenly went to the Metalex Roadster auction this spring.

Several of the winners of the auction came together on the phone this time, and they preferred to be anonymous about bidding in the hall. Compared to the spring auction, there were more interested people through the Aukro auction portal.

Kočí is already compiling a list of items to be offered at next year’s spring auction. “There will definitely be different managers. A Čezeta called a pig, which is very popular, some Felicia and pre-war cars, which we like a lot. We want to move the auction to constant step by step higher and higher,” concludes Choir.
