“Monday Night Football” is a real stroke of luck for ABC and Co.
In the second week of “Monday Night Football” (September 18th), in which two games took place with staggered start times, the ESPN platforms reached an average of 21.8 million viewers (ESPN, ABC, ESPN2, ESPN+, ESPN Deportes). The Saints vs. Panthers (kickoff 7:15 p.m.) and Browns vs. Steelers (kickoff 8:15 p.m.) games overlapped for more than two hours (8:15 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.). The 21,757,000 viewers, which includes fans on NFL+, represents a six percent increase over the similar Monday Night Football season premieres in week two of the 2022 season (20.6 million viewers on the same channels).
Reach increased across all ESPN platforms: 4.7 billion minutes compared to 3.9 billion minutes last year. The Browns-Steelers game (15.4 million viewers on ABC, ESPN+, NFL+) was 20 percent higher than the Vikings-Eagles game on the same networks last season. Together with Saints-Panthers, the average viewership of the two games on ESPN platforms increased by 11 percent (11.4 million to 10.3 million).
ESPN, which was the second most-watched network on television after ABC, averaged seven million viewers along with ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes for Saints-Panthers. ESPN’s ratings for week two of “Monday Night Football” follow record-breaking viewership in week one.
