[Reporter Zheng Qifang/Taipei Report]According to the Customs Administration of the Ministry of Finance, from September to November last year, the Jinma Peng Branch of the Coast Guard Bureau seized a total of 3,433 boxes of smuggled exported lobsters, with a net weight of 58,706 kilograms, and transferred a total of 98.61 million to the Keelung Customs Office. Yu Yuan, the highest penalty in the history of the Matsu area.
The Customs Administration pointed out that since China banned the import of Australian lobsters, some people took risks because of the trend of profit. From September to November last year, they smuggled live lobsters from Matsu to China for as many as 33 voyages without declaring to the customs. In order to prevent illegal smuggling, the Customs and Coast Guard worked closely together. After several months of persistent evidence collection, analysis and interpretation, the evidence was completed on March 8 this year, and Keelung completed all sanctions on March 10, highlighting the government’s Enforcement determination.
The Customs Administration emphasizes that ships carrying goods that evade inspection, evade customs duties, or evade control, and transport goods into or out of the country without declaring to the customs constitute the “smuggling of goods into and out of the country” in Article 3 of the “Customs Anti-smuggling Regulations”. According to regulations, a fine of up to three times the price of the goods can be imposed, and the smuggled goods will also be confiscated. The Customs Administration stated that it will continue to cooperate with the Coast Guard to crack down on illegal smuggling.
