Today, the 27th, a low pressure system is rapidly developing in the east of Honshu. The snow is intensifying, especially on the Pacific side of Tohoku, and some places are experiencing record amounts of snow. Please be on high alert for heavy snowfall into the evening and refrain from going out unless necessary. Snow clouds are flowing along the mountains of Hokuriku and northern Kanto, as well as parts of northern Kinki.

Places with record heavy snowfall

Today, the 27th, a low pressure system is rapidly developing in the east of Honshu. Another low pressure system is moving south off the coast of Sanriku.

In Tohoku, snow is falling more heavily, especially on the Pacific coast, and some places are experiencing record amounts of snow. The daily maximum 12-hour snowfall was 61 cm in Iwaizumi Town, Iwate Prefecture (updated the first place in February), 55 cm in Miyako City, Iwate Prefecture (updated the first place in observed history), and 43 cm in Kuji City, Iwate Prefecture (2 1st place of the month) was observed. 27 centimeters of snow also fell in Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture.

Snow clouds are also covering the mountains of Hokuriku and northern Kanto, as well as parts of northern Kinki. The daily maximum 12-hour snowfall amount was 25 cm in Fujiwara, Minakami Town, Gunma Prefecture.

Snow continues, Iwate Prefecture is on high alert for heavy snow

Snow will continue to fall in the afternoon of today, the 27th, mainly in Tohoku and Hokuriku. The wind will be very strong and there will be blizzards in some places. Please be aware of the impact on transportation.

Particularly in the northern part of the coast of Iwate Prefecture, heavy snowfall has been difficult to remove. Please be on high alert for heavy snow into the evening, and refrain from going out unless necessary, considering the possibility of traffic disruptions.
