The 2003 heat wave no longer seems to be an exception, given current temperatures. But this episode allowed the mandatory establishment of a register (free and confidential) within the CCAS. Indeed, people aged 65 and over or with disabilities can register to benefit from personalized follow-up. Every day, agents contact them, ensuring that they are well hydrated. This daily accompaniment delights the beneficiaries, the isolation being often reinforced in periods of high heat. For the director of the CCAS, Axelle Chalamet, these registers remain little known, however, despite a promotion in May. The objective is clear, “to encourage all vulnerable people to register, in order to identify them and offer them alternative solutions”.
Next door, air-conditioned places are also open. Such as the Pierre-Sémard independent residence, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week. A cool place, served by air-conditioned vehicles, another option offered by the City. This service thus prevents mobility from being an obstacle, allowing fragile people to move easily despite the heat wave.
At the same time, the activities also adapt to the temperatures. Every week, during the summer period, the Social Life Development Service (SDVS), arranges outings to quench the thirst of Martinérois. At altitude or near a lake, everything is good for looking for a bit of freshness. Like the majority of other activities, offered free of charge by the service, which also take place in air-conditioned rooms.
From June to September, the SDVS also organizes “well-being cocktail” workshops in the various neighborhood centers of the city. It then sensitizes to heat, combining hydration with food in order to prevent possible health problems for these fragile populations.
If you want to leave your home and go to these places of freshness, contact the CCAS of Saint-Martin-d’Hères on 04 76 60 74 12.
